Day 1 of our much awaited trip to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
We booked Tiger Airways early morning flight and arrive at Budget Terminal in the cold early morning.
Our planned schedule for today would be:

This is us having breakfast at Macdonald's

Checked-in our luggage and ready to enter the departure Zone.

Inside the hallway waiting for the gates to open.

The one and only boarding gate entrance in the budget terminal.

Here's our flight waiting to load our luggage in.

Queuing up to board the flight.

First time boarding the plane like this..

Arrival at Ho Chi Minh's airport. It was empty and quiet.

Me @ HCM, ready to explore

The much recommended Mailinh Taxi.

Here we arrive at a busy road of Pham Ngu Lao, where we were "escorted" by the bellboy to get across the scary street.

Me checking in at the counter.

Our Room - comes with dressing table, TV with cable channels, mini fridge, safe box.

Clean big bed

Super big mirror in toilet with shampoo, bath foam, comb

The toilet

No bathtub.. but its still a nice showerhead.

Big wardrobe for all our clothes.

Ah Ong @ HCM

Here we are just less than 5 mins walk from Elios Hotel .
At the recommended Sinh Cafe .

Most of them able to speak simple english. All tours are listed in their pamphlets.
We booked our tour to Mekong delta and 1/2day Cu Chi Tunnel for the next two days.

Big beautiful garden. I guess we will never have this kind of garden in SIngapore due to lack of space.

Just behind him is the Ben Thanh Market.
It took us roughly 10mins to get here.

Just before crossing the road to Ben THanh, you will see Pho 2000.

waiting for our Phos..... can see Bill clinton's photo in the shop.

Our first cuppa of viet coffee.

Smell strong, taste strong. Their coffee is thicker.

Here's our pho. I ordered the beef pho and Ong's Vege pho.
Notice that our serving are really huge even though we ordered Small bowl.

My delicious beef pho.
Its really good. I strongly recommend Pho 2000 .

Here we are at Ben Thanh market after our delicious meal.
Try not to walk in the small alley because you will get alot of grabbing attention.

Its full of tourist.

The wet market behind.

Sweets, nuts, cuttlefish, snacks.

Centre is the food area. too many to choose from.

You will see stalls selling coffee beans everywhere.
Be sure to compare your prices before purchasing.

about 10mins walk from Ben THanh market, we reached Saigon centre

Saigon Centre , 65 Le Loi.
Let's just say that We dun fancy shopping in SAigon centre. There are no interesting shops.

Consider buying your coffee gift packs for relatives and friends here.
Trung Nguyen coffee G7 taste good.

Ho Chi Minh Museum.
We walked pass it but did not enter.
Well, we couldnt find the entrance anyway.

Here's a view of HCM streets

Roughly about 10mins walk from ho chi minh museum, we reached the Saigon Post office.

Us @ the road junction where the cathedral and POst office are.

.........................
I have to say that I love the tree.

Beautiful structure of the cathedral and statue.

We just didnt think of entering to take alook.

The view of Diamond plaza from the cathedral.

Post Office.

See the architecture.. well preserved.

The view inside is spectacular.

The telephone booths

Can spot him?

This is a rare sight.
Do you get to see this in singapore? Not possible.
Everyone makes their calls at home or on their mobile.
And maybe you dun even need a phone. A webcast will do.

Its good to see people still write letters/ postcards and mail them out.

Its packed with tourists..... including us.

The park across Reunification Palacce

We didnt get in as its a long walk inside and the entrance fee is not cheap.
And we dun fancy seeing long hallways where people use to hold their meetings.

After along 15mins walk trying to find the location of war remnants museum. we finally found it beside a construction site.

The big tank at the entrance.

Its like the air show... but with older planes.

And the boy found his toy....

He is really enjoying it.

We are not allowed to climb on them and pretend to be pilots.

I wonder if this heli still able to fly.

Entering the Tiger cage.

Not afraid, he just chiong in.
And you are welcomed by this scary sight

And he dares to climb the stairs up when there is no sign or whatever.
And what he found ? Nothing.

And once again, he went in first.

And this is where they show how prisoners were executed.
Well thought out. The head gets chopped off by the blade, and the barrel collects the rolling head and blood flows inside too. Save the cleanup.
After seeing grueling photos of how the war ruined many lives , disfigured photos and scary interrogating methods... we ended our trip and find our way back to the hotel .

We were greeted by a plate of exotic fruits and a cheap red wine with a card from the hotel.
It says "with compliments."

Thinking that we still have some time left on our schedule, we decided to try to find the army market. But it was closed by 6pm already.
And my goodness.. it was infested with cockroaches!!!!! ARGH!!!

The streets at night in HCM.
And we decided to walk around to try some local fare

Found a stall selling Banh Mi

So Happy and excited to try the banh mi

We ordered beef stew pho from a stall.

And this from a mobile cart.

The freshly made banh mi

Tasty Vietnamese Baguette - Vn10,000 with tasty meat, fresh crisp veges..
You have to try it yourself.

Product of Vietnam
